My work as an intern has helped me in many ways. Ways that can make my education better and easier. It has made me a bit more responsible, taught me to not procrastinate, and to be organized. Being surrounded by greatly educated people makes me realize how important education is. To get to where these excellent teachers are, I MUST attend college. I must not goof around and take school seriously. Another thing I also learned is that communication is important for everything at "work". If I did not communicate with teacher's I would not know what I should be doing half of the time. Either that or I would be making mistakes EVERYWHERE.
My workplace means a lot to me. I am working at my middle school which helped me at everything, from my education to my life. The school staff is was like a family to me when I attended the school. A school that has around 60 students. Knowing that I helped them means a lot to me as well because I feel like I am repaying the school back. Not as much as they helped me but still something.
Well my project was given to me to be honest. I was fine with that because what I am working on would help the 8th grade parents understand more about college. It will help them understand what they do not. I also added ways to make college admission better by making it easier and safer. I havn't finished it yet but I think its coming out decent in my opinion. To be honest, I feel like internship is better than school in the way that there is no real stress. Although there are still due dates and responsibilities, the time given is perfect. I do not have many responsibilities which might be why it is so stress free. The work is doable within a day and I have the WHOLE day there to work on it. Internship has really made me more organized and a bit more responsible.
I commented on Milo's, Andrew's and Eric's blog pages.
Seems like all of them are enjoying their internship a lot. All of them have learned something new from health, plumbing and organization. I feel like I have learned to be a bit more confident in what I am saying, I have also improved just a bit in improvising. Organization has been a big part at internship as well. This will help me be more organized at school which will then help me not lose any papers.
I have still only been working on making power points for the teachers. I haven't really learned too much but I have been busy. I guess I can say that I'm learning how to make presentations way longer than they look. Meaning from 2 slides with minimal information I can talk/present a few extra minutes than before.
My project will now be doing two things, they are making presentations for a teacher about colleges to share with the 8th grade parents, and I will also be doing vocabulary presentations for students to learn from. The vocabulary will help out the English teacher a lot by saving her the work and time, and the college presentations will also do the same for the person in chare
I either work in the front office of the school or in the computer lab which is near the back of the school. I can really just chose wherever I want to work. In the computer lab there are two white boards right beside me. Then to the right there are all the computers in rows neatly organized. The computer lab is also the library to the school. There are book shelves around the room. At the end their are windows tall as a small building which leads to the lunch area. The front office has one main desk with two rooms behind it. One room is for the principal and the other room is for both the co-principals. The main one is for helpers to take over the entrance, unanswered calls, and requests. The front desk is pretty big, it circles around you, holding supplies on the right and the computer and work in the front. Windows to the right showing you the front of the small but amazing school. Two chairs in the front for people who are waiting for something. The best part about being in the front office is controlling the entrance. This year they made the school more secure by adding locks to every door. You can not enter without a key or having someone open the door for you. Well the front desk has a machine where it lets you control the first door. In order for someone to get your attention they must ring the bell. That activates the machine and camera. It then starts recording in case something terrible was to happen. From the machine you spectate as if you were the camera and you can control it to zoom closer or change the angle of the view. Keep in mind its already kind of close. If you recognize the person you hold down a button which then temporarily opens the lock. If you don't recognize them you can hold another button to then talk to them, and what I like to do is get the camera right on their face. Only reason I do that with the camera is because its just fun using the machine.
I work 5 times a week 6 hours a day except Wednesdays, which I work 5 hours a day because I stay until 6 to talk about college preparation, a program i have been in since 9th grade. Pictures to be posted another day. Do not have a camera with me. Concern: Can't get a hold of a camera. At my internship I have worked on two things so far, which are working with applicants with their applications and helping out with a little search activity that has to do with finding out what the mystery college of the week is with the details given. My job was to research the colleges and make hints for the students, I have made four so far. My project for this internship is to make several hour long presentations that have to do with college. The topics are benefits of college education, college preparation for middle school students, paying for college, types of colleges and universities, academic resources and organizations, and financial aid and scholarship resources and organizations. I did not have a visit from my Internship Advisor.
Today I have interacted with my middle school teacher Mr. Solis. He is currently a math teacher and is in charge of applications/applicants who want to enter the school. The school's name is Nativity Prep Academy, a small private school that helps low-income students get high quality education and attention. What I did today was help organize all the paper work that had to do with applications to enter NPA. I learned how to organize files. He taught me the basics in organizing. This will come in handy later in the future.
I am most excited about helping out the teachers and students, I really like helping others. I am also excited about seeing my middle school teachers and my cousin. I am scared of messing up in some way that will make someone's day harder.
