The Present
Project Idea: Movies show what really happened.
- You can pick any movie that involves any part in history that actually happened. For example X-Men First Class, it involves the Cuban Missile Crisis. What you would do is research about the actual event, and watch the movie and either remember or write notes on it. What the student would do is present the Movie version of the Cuban Missile crisis as if he was a teacher giving the lecture. He would shortly explain what people think what happened, but he would then teach the "real version"(movie version). In this student's case he would have to talk about the ship that passed the quarantine that the US set up to block the soviets from entering Cuba. He would then talk about how the evil mutants were trying to cause nuclear war and how the good mutants (Proffessor Xavier, Magneto (Eric) and a couple of others stopped this from happening.
Essential Question:
1) Depending on what event and movie you are doing, what is shown correctly and what is false information? Even if the movie version of the event is false, can some of the fake scenes be possible, would it be able to fit with actual history? Why or How?
Products:
- I want students to research about an event in history, something they might find interesting, and relate it to a movie. While learning about the actual event, students can watch a movie they like and somewhat teach the class about it. Doing something productive while sharing a movie they recommend at the same time.
Learning Goals:
- Content: History
- Skills: Research skills, Presenting skills
Timeline/Deadlines: Research - Paper with facts, can be bullet pointed but needs sources, short talk with teacher explaining what happened and what happened in the movie, Presentation Finished, Present their Actual history vs movie history
Strategies for Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners:
- This is one thing that I would need to work on but as of right now there is researching and sitting back and watching a movie
Presentation/Exhibition:
- Students would explain what they had to do for the project, what movie and event they chose. They can give really short presentation, and if the students really want to, they can even try and convince the people that the movie is what really happened.
Grading:
- How accurate was the event chosen similar to the movie event?
- Movie Choice
- Presentation
