I learned to appreciate hand made goods, especially leather products. Working with Bradley Mountain has taught me some of the things people do to make leather products. In this case it was leather backpacks. Working with the leather wasn't too hard but the time consuming part was making sure that measurements and cuts were as perfect as possible. Doing this over and over can be tiring and annoying but the end product is very worth it. Once the item is finished you think to yourself, "I made that, from flat pieces of canvas and leather to an elegant looking backpack." The people that were in this work environment were amazing. They were extremely forgiving, caring, and positive. It made the workplace a very good place to be at. The positivity would stick to you and instantly make you feel confident and happy. Doing this for a month has made me realize I really like doing hands on stuff. What this means is not repetitive tasks but different tasks from time to time.
I measured my success by being told a goal. By the end of the day I would have to complete it which turned out a success. I was able to complete each task by the end of the day. I was able to see that I really like making other people's orders. By this I mean I like to make someones idea come true while implementing my own ideas in it to make a beautiful end product.
Yes, my externship has had an impact in my choice for a career. It has made me realize I really like doing hands on stuff and can not be seated for too long. It seemed building something that a person asks for was my favorite thing to do. Even though I was only able to build the letter S with Nick, he showed me everything that he has made and it all looks amazing.
Working in Moniker was a blast. While it was hands on work which may sometimes be tiring, the people there are just special. The atmosphere they create is a wonderful thing. If there were people like them all over this world, we would be REALLY close to world piece. Not only are they nice wonderful people, they are funny and like to have fun. It's the perfect kit for a workplace to have. It taught me different ways of doing new things. From looking it in different perspectives (thinking outside the box) to simply building something differently.Mingo told me a bit of what he does while running Moniker and Smart Interactions that are really helpful with the job of leading a group. Yes I constantly ask if I have done anything wrong and ask how I can fix it. When something feels like a difficult task I ask others to either help me or tell them I don't feel like doing the task in case I mess up. I do not want to make an error that will set us back so I am on point about this topic.
What strikes me at my internship are the products that are made. They can be either simple but beautiful to complex and artistic, everything is just astonishing. I am very happy that I am given the chance to help out the Moniker Group. My schedule depends on what someone is doing that day since it is order based.
The things I have done at Moniker , I have done in other places in my life. They are basic handling of wood, paint, tape, and leather. I have build a 3D letter S but not on a large scale and I have painted before but not this type of art piece. Moniker paints the picture that people can only visualize. When people have an idea of an art piece but they cant make it real, Moniker places the product right in front of your eyes.
Everyone that I've met at Moniker is extremely cool. They have a variety of things the do for a living and for fun but most of all they have style! Some groups that make things implement their style into their artwork/product and is really nice to see. I'm excited about meeting more people and not really worried about much anymore besides messing up.
My internship is helping the people at Moniker out. The Moniker warehouse is a place where individual companies rent out a space to do their thing. This can go from backpack making to just using the space as an office. I am really excited about working there in general but I am nervous about making a mistake. My mentor is Mingo and he has advised me to be myself. The people there are wonderful and nice.
